It’s another rainy day in Chestnut Hill, and we know that means you’re probably looking for any excuse to stay dry and warm inside. Luckily, we’re here to help! After reconvening for our first Medusa Council meeting of the semester, we are more excited than ever to continue invoking our bragging rights about all the lovely members of our team via our Meet the Council series (and give you an excuse for a few more minutes on your computer, out of the rain).
To recap, our magazine is edited, designed, published, and promoted by a small group of BC’s undergraduate women each year, and we count ourselves lucky to attract some of the smartest and savviest snake-ladies that Boston College has to offer. Putting together a full publication each semester is a labor of love, and this year we’re turning the spotlight to the group of 13 awesome women who make it possible. Check back over the next few weeks to meet the full council, head here if you missed getting to know Celia last week, and read on right now to meet globe-trotting babe Jordan Tessler!
Jordan joined the Medusa Council in 2016, but she’s been making her mark at BC since long before that. She runs her own organization for young women’s leadership in Senegal, West Africa, a project she started with the help of a grant from BC in her freshman year. Now a junior, Jordan is a History major with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies who splits her time between Mock Trial and volunteering as an ESOL tutor through the BC neighborhood center. She’s currently away from campus on her semester of study abroad in Aix-en-Provence, but we can’t wait to have her back next year! Here’s some more things to know about Jordan:
Favorite literary quote?
“I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am.” – The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Personal female icon?
I just finished Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and she’s currently my greatest inspiration for being a kickass woman.
Where can you find her outside of the Medusa?
Drinking copious amounts of coffee in Hillside or in Gasson 201 practicing for mock trial competitions with her team
